Leitrim Flood Appeal Raise over €24,200 with the help of an anonymous donation of €10,000

Leitrim Flood Appeal now in it’s third week are still actively fundraising and continue to accept monetary donations on their website www.leitrimfloodappeal.com and donations of furniture to its warehouse which was kindly donated by Niall McLoughlin, Carrick On Shannon.

A great boost was given to the appeal early last week when an anonymous donation of €10,000 was made by someone with close Leitrim connections living in Ireland along with numerous postal donations and sponsorships namely Area 54’s €2,000 and Tesco’s €1,000. Organisers were delighted by all the tremendous gestures of generosity as they had been left feeling discouraged after a couple of events displayed poor turnouts.

Letters of support and encouragement continue to flood (pardon the pun) the office of the appeal. Members are very anxious to distribute money but to date very few applications and nominations have been received.

The Leitrim Flood Appeal can reveal that they have already distributed €6,700 to individuals in the Leitrim Village area. They would like to encourage people at this time to nominate candidates that have been directly affected and they will do their best to distribute more funds and furniture in time for Christmas.

The Leitrim Flood Appeal would like to thank everybody for their support to date and would like at this stage to reiterate that funding will be issued on a need basis and will go directly to the families and individuals affected.

Individuals can e-mail their needs directly to leitrimfloodappeal@gmail.com or follow the e-mail link on their website www.leitrimfloodappeal.com or phone any member of the committee Maire Canning 087 612 4168, Laura Maloney 087 958 2177, Paul McCarthy 087 19370

The official launch of Leitrim Flood Appeal will take place in Leitrim Marina Hotel, Saturday, 5th December @ 9pm.

Recent events in our county have devastated families, businesses and farmers alike with the worst flooding we have seen in over 100 years.
A group of concerned members of the community have set up a fund to help the people that are most in need. This fund is to help defray costs incurred in re-housing, cleanup etc. and will be made available for both families and individuals that have been affected and are struggling to cope, recover and get their lives back to some sort of normality.
